Tokyo, July 16 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force deployed its second Osprey tilt-rotor transport aircraft at Camp Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, on Thursday.
The aircraft flew from the U.S. Marine Corps’ Iwakuni base in Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan.
The GSDF plans to deploy 17 Ospreys provisionally at Camp Kisarazu for up to five years.
The Defense Ministry aims to transfer the Ospreys to Saga Airport in southwestern Japan after the provisional deployment.
The first Osprey arrived at Camp Kisarazu on Friday.
Test flights of the two Ospreys are expected to take place as early as August.
