Secretary Pompeo criticizes China

The Saturday morning editions of all national dailies front-paged reports on remarks delivered by Secretary of State Pompeo at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in California on Thursday. The papers wrote that the Secretary reportedly stressed the need to change the past U.S. administrations’ “engagement policy” toward China and called on other democratic nations to join in the creation of an alliance against the communist nation. Yomiuri wrote that tensions between the United States and China will likely escalate further following the Secretary’s harsh criticism of Beijing. Nikkei wrote that the friction between Washington and Beijing is likely to enter a new phase because China will probably react strongly to the Secretary’s criticism of the communist regime led by Xi Jinping.
