NTV reported that Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Krach strongly criticized China by saying in an interview with the network that the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco is “harboring Chinese spies” and is “a center for spying activities aimed at Silicon Valley.” Asked about the possibility of closing the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco, Krach reportedly said the U.S. will take a wait-and-see approach. Meanwhile, concerning the 5G network, the senior DOS official reiterated the need to keep Chinese companies out of the network because it could serve as a means for China’s monitoring activities. Krach also reportedly said: “Just as India banned 59 apps including TikTok and WeChat, we are examining programs and apps that can be used….This is an issue concerning national security.”
