NHK reported that in light of the number of cases in which people have been infected by the coronavirus at restaurants and bars, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will request drinking establishments and karaoke bars in Tokyo to shorten their operating hours and close at 10 p.m. from August 3 through 31. The TMG will provide subsidies for establishments that comply with the request. The network said a record 367 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Tokyo today, adding that many of them were apparently linked to dining out. The network said Governor Koike is expected to announce the decision at a press conference today.
