South Korea’s legal proceedings on forced labor case to end on Tuesday

Sunday’s Yomiuri wrote that a South Korean district court order for the seizure of financial assets of Nippon Steel Corp. to use as compensation for former requisitioned workers will be completed on Tuesday. The court’s notification of the seizure sent to the Japanese firm in early June automatically takes effect after two months despite the GOJ’s refusal to forward it. While it will take several months for the liquidation of the seized assets, the daily projected that the Abe administration will take strong measures in response if in fact the assets are liquidated, further straining bilateral relations.
