Ministry of Defense personnel transfers

At a cabinet meeting on July 31, the Abe administration announced government personnel transfers. The transfers will go into effect on Aug. 5. At the Ministry of Defense, Minister’s Secretariat Director-General Kazuhisa Shimada (58) will succeed Kenichi Takahashi (62) as Administrative Vice-Minister of Defense. Shimada was executive secretary to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe from Dec. 2012 to July 2019. After graduating from Keio University, Shimada joined the Defense Agency (currently Ministry of Defense) in 1985. He was director of the Defense Policy Division and executive secretary to the prime minister. He has served in the current position since July 2019.
