Sankei front-paged a finding that the Saitama prefectural government has suspended its information service for residents on TikTok in response to concerns raised by some citizens about the potential leakage of customer data. The local government has used the Chinese social media platform since June to provide the public with information on the COVID-19 infection situation and on key policy issues. According to the daily, the Kobe municipal government has also shut down its official TikTok account for the same reason. The prefectural governments of Osaka and Hiroshima may follow suit after seeking advice from the central government.
