U.S. military Ospreys land at Hokkaido ASDF base without prior notice

On Aug. 5, the Hokkaido Defense Bureau revealed that two U.S. military Ospreys landed at Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) Chitose Air Base in Chitose, Hokkaido on Aug. 4. According to Chitose City, prior notice of the landings had not been given. Chitose City requested the Hokkaido Defense Bureau for information, noting that “there has never been a landing without prior notice, as far as we know” and such landings will cause “anxiety among local residents.”

 

According to the Hokkaido Defense Bureau, two CV-22 Ospreys landed in Chitose around 12:40 p.m. The Ospreys took off about one hour later.
