NHK reported that the GOJ has decided to partially ease border control restrictions starting next month to allow the reentry of foreigners with resident status. The network said while the GOJ currently bans the entry of foreigners from 146 nations and regions, even those with resident status unless they left Japan due to “exceptional circumstances,” it has decided to approve starting next month the reentry of foreigners with resident status even if they did not leave Japan due to exceptional circumstances on the condition that they undergo PCR testing and self-quarantine at hotels for 14 days upon arrival. The network said there are about 2.6 million foreigners with resident status in Japan, adding that the GOJ is planning to increase the testing capacity at Narita and two other airports to 10,000 people per day by the end of next month.
