Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held separate talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Jordanian King Abdullah II by phone on Sept. 2. Abe explained to them why he decided to express his intention to resign and they all agreed to strengthen bilateral relations with Japan’s new government.

Trudeau showed his appreciation for Abe, saying: “I appreciate your leadership. I value your contribution to developing Japan-Canada relations.” Johnson said, “I respect your great achievement and appreciate that the Japan-U.K. relationship has grown stronger than ever before.” King Abdullah II also praised Abe, saying: “I’m glad to have worked with you on the challenges in the Middle East region. I highly value your contributions.”
