Sunday’s Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that as of Sept. 6, flying drones within 300 meters of 15 U.S. military bases in Japan, including Camp Schwab and Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, is prohibited in principle under Japanese law. Noting that news organizations and citizens have been using drones to monitor the progress of the FRF construction near Camp Schwab, the paper claimed that its information-gathering activities will be significantly limited because it will now be necessary to obtain permission from the base commander and notify the local police before using drones in the area.
