Tokyo, Sept. 11 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese government will spend 1.6 trillion yen from its reserve funds for measures against the novel coronavirus, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s parliamentary affairs head, Hiroshi Moriyama, said Friday.

The government will support medical institutions in financial difficulties and local governments leasing hotels for mild to moderate coronavirus carriers to stay, Moriyama told Jun Azumi, the Diet affairs chief of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.

The spending is set to be approved at a cabinet meeting Tuesday, according to Moriyama.

The two also agreed to hold informal meetings of budget committee members of both chambers of the Diet, the country’s parliament, to ask the central government about details.
