Polling methodology (August 2020): The survey was conducted over the four-day period of Aug. 7–10, 2020, through individual interviews. For the survey, a total of 1,977 people were sampled from among men and women, aged 18 and over, across the nation on a stratified two-stage random-sampling basis. The poll was not conducted in Okinawa Prefecture due to the COVID-19 situation there. Valid responses were received from 1,260 people for a valid response rate of 63.7%. Composition: men, 52.5%; women, 47.5%; age 18–29, 9.7%; 30–39, 14.3%; 40–49, 18.1%; 50–59, 15.3%; 60–69, 17.6%; age 70 and over, 25.0%.

For the survey, a total of 2,000 people were sampled from among men and women, aged 18 and over, across the nation on a stratified two-stage random-sampling basis. Valid responses were received from 1,229 people for a valid response rate of 61.5%. Composition: men, 51.5%; women, 48.5%; age 18–29, 10.2%; 30–39, 15.4%; 40–49, 16.9%; 50–59, 16.6%; 60–69, 16.7%; age 70 and over, 24.2%.
Polling methodology (June 2020): The survey was conducted by postal mail. Questionnaires were posted on June 11, and the deadline for responses was June 22, 2020. For the survey, a total of 2,000 people were sampled from among men and women, aged 18 and over, across the nation on a stratified two-stage random-sampling basis. Valid responses were received from 986 people for a valid response rate of 49.3%. Composition: men, 47.2%; women, 52.8%; age 18–29, 9.1%; 30–39, 13.5%; 40–49, 17.6%; 50–59, 15.4%; 60–69, 19.1%; age 70 and over, 25.3%.
