Suga, Trudeau discuss cooperation on free and open Indo-Pacific, coronavirus 

Nikkei, Asahi, and Sankei reported on Prime Minister Suga’s teleconference with his Canadian counterpart Trudeau on Wednesday. The papers wrote that the two leaders reaffirmed their cooperation in pursuing the vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific in response to China’s activities in the East and South China Seas and agreed to continue to work together in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. Asahi added that the Japanese and Canadian leaders also agreed to respond to North Korea’s illegal transfers of goods at sea, and Suga asked for Canada’s cooperation in resolving the abduction issue.
