All national dailies reported on the announcement by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government that it confirmed 284 new COVID-19 infections in Tokyo on Thursday. This was the first time for the daily tally in Tokyo to exceed 280 since Aug. 20. Yomiuri wrote that 136 of the 284 patients are in their 20s and 30s. The paper said the GOJ subcommittee on the coronavirus warned on Thursday that infections could spike again at any time because people’s increasing activities could expand the spread of the virus. The panel added, however, that preventive measures such as avoiding crowded places will help to reduce the risk of infection.
