Suga to visit Vietnam, Indonesia next week

Nikkei reported on the announcement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato this morning that Prime Minister Suga will visit Vietnam and Indonesia from Sunday to discuss with their leaders pressing regional issues, such as China’s militarization of the South China Sea and North Korea’s nuclear and missile development. In Vietnam, Suga will hold talks with Prime Minister Phuc to confirm mutual cooperation for making the ASEAN Summit to be chaired by Vietnam in November a success. Suga will deliver a speech on Japan’s policy on the region while in Vietnam. Suga is also expected to hold a summit with Indonesia President Joko Widodo and exchange views with him on bilateral, regional, and international issues, such as the coronavirus pandemic.
