Nikkei wrote that Defense Minister Kishi and his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto held a videoconference on Monday and agreed to accelerate discussions on Japan’s export of defense equipment to Indonesia. The two officials also agreed to seek to hold a 2+2 meeting of the defense and foreign ministers of their nations at an early date. With China’s escalating activities in the South and East China Seas in mind, Kishi reportedly stated that Japan strongly opposes any activities to heighten tensions in the region.
