Japan confirmed more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases yesterday

All national dailies wrote that more than 1,000 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Japan on Thursday, with the daily count exceeding 1,000 for the first time since Aug. 21. This brings the cumulative total of confirmed cases in the country to more than 105,000. One region of particular concern is Hokkaido, where there has been a spike in new cases recently, as its daily count on Thursday surpassed 100 for the first time, reaching 119. Sapporo, the prefecture’s major city, accounted for the majority of the cases at 93, which is a record high for the city. Tokyo confirmed 269 new cases.
