In the Japanese-speaking Twittersphere, tweets about the U.S. presidential election that include information that U.S. fact checkers have determined to be unfounded are spreading rapidly. A tweet claiming that “120,000 ballots were mysteriously added within an hour early in the morning in Wisconsin” had been retweeted more than 8,000 times and received more than 10,000 likes as of Oct. 5 (JST). A link added to this tweet cautions that it is prohibited to use Twitter in order to manipulate or disrupt elections and other civic activities.

A tweet claiming to be an overview of potential election fraud in Wisconsin has also been widely spread. Twitter has added a label to some of the retweets warning that the post is potentially “misleading.” (Abridged)
