On Nov. 7, the Okinawa police station arrested on the spot a U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal affiliated with Camp Foster on suspicion of violation of the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). The serviceman denies the charge, saying that he “did not drink alcohol.”

The allegation is that the serviceman was driving a standard-sized car on a municipal road in the Mihama district of Chatan around 2:25 a.m. on Nov. 7 while under the influence of alcohol. A police officer on patrol stopped a car with unlit license plate lights and reportedly smelled alcohol inside the car. A Breathalyzer test reportedly revealed a level of alcohol that exceeded the legal limit.
