NHK reported at noon that Economic Revitalization Minister Nishimura told the press today that he met with Kanagawa Governor Kuroiwa earlier in the day and exchanged views on measures to combat the coronavirus. He reportedly said: “The governor is very worried about the small number of hospital beds, especially in the cities of Yokohama and Kawasaki. We both felt the situation in the prefecture is critical and approaching Stage 3 and agreed to strengthen measures.” Meanwhile, concerning the nationwide infection situation, Nishimura reportedly said: “We are not in a situation like in April or May when a state of emergency was declared. We will prevent the spread of the virus and protect people’s lives by strengthening measures in targeted regions and businesses so that we don’t have to declare a state of emergency.”
