Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that the Okinawa police arrested a U.S. Army sergeant belonging to Torii Station on Sunday on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law by driving under the influence of alcohol in Chatan. The paper wrote that U.S. service members have been arrested in succession over the past month on charges of robbery, assault, and DUI and that cases of drunk driving involving U.S. military personnel have continued to occur despite the Okinawa Prefectural Government’s request to the U.S. military to tighten discipline. According to the Okinawa police, at least 10 service members were arrested on DUI charges between Oct. 31 and Nov. 29.
