Nikkei wrote that hospital beds for COVID-19 patients are filling up quickly in Japan. Although hospital capacities have not yet been reached, some of the available beds cannot be used due to a shortage of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers. According to the paper, as of Nov. 29, 70.4% of hospital beds ready to accept coronavirus patients are occupied in Hokkaido and 70.3% in Hyogo. The paper expressed concern that the healthcare system will collapse if it becomes difficult for hospitals to accept outpatients or emergency patients due to the need to concentrate their resources on treating COVID-19 patients.
