Japan to prohibit sales of new gasoline cars by mid-2030s

Mainichi wrote that final arrangements are underway within the GOJ to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars in the mid-2030s so that Japan can achieve its goal of reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050. METI will convene a meeting with local auto manufacturers on Dec. 10 to make an official announcement.
