GOJ compiles 73.6 trillion-yen economic package

All networks reported at noon that Prime Minister Suga disclosed at a meeting of the GOJ and ruling parties today a new economic package worth 73.6 trillion yen ($700 billion), which entails actual fiscal spending of around 40 trillion yen. Suga reportedly said: “This economic package is to protect the lives of the people, maintain employment, keep businesses going, revive the economy, and open a path to growth including through green and digital technologies.” The premier reportedly explained that the new economic package also includes support for hospitals and nursing homes, financial aid for businesses, and funds to boost investment in green technology. The networks said the Cabinet is expected to approve the package on Tuesday evening.
