TV Asahi reported at noon that the joint military exercises between U.S. forces and the GSDF being held in Gunma were disclosed to the press today. The network said the joint drills are based on the scenario of regaining control of a Japanese remote island, saying that about 30 GSDF members boarded two MV-22 Ospreys and carried out airmobile operations training. According to the network, all of the participants were wearing masks during the exercise due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The network said that although seven GSDF members who were participating in the exercise have tested positive for the coronavirus, the joint drills will continue to be held until Dec. 18.
