Yomiuri wrote that Defense Minister Kishi and his Brazilian counterpart Azevedo held a videoconference on Tuesday and signed a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation between their countries that is aimed at increasing personnel exchanges and information sharing on the security front, including cybersecurity. The paper speculated that the move is intended to push back against China, which has been increasing its influence in Latin America through economic assistance. The paper added that Brazil is the second Latin American country with which Japan has concluded such an agreement following Colombia.
