All national papers wrote that a group of nine medical organizations led by the Japan Medical Association and the Japan Hospital Association declared a “state of medical emergency” on Monday in response to what appears to be a never-ending surge in COVID-19 infections. They called for the public to exercise maximum precautions and to practice infection prevention protocols rigorously to stem the further spread of the coronavirus. The declaration underscored that the nation’s healthcare system could collapse at anytime unless the current outbreak is contained as soon as possible.
