All national dailies reported that on Tuesday a Health Ministry advisory board asked the GOJ to call for restaurants and nightlife establishments in Tokyo to close even earlier in the evening to stem a further rise in the epidemic curve. The experts reportedly expressed concern that the virus is spreading across Japan as a result of extensive transmission in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The panel members were alarmed by the continued spike in new COVID-19 cases, worrying that many people have perhaps ignored public authorities’ repeated calls to limit outings. The blue-ribbon commission also underscored the importance of beefing up quarantine measures at borders to prevent the infiltration of the new strain of COVID-19 that is raging in the UK.
