Nationwide tally of COVID-19 cases marks record high for four days in a row

All national dailies reported over the weekend that the numbers of people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus nationwide hit 3,830 on Friday and 3,880 on Saturday, noting that the daily caseloads marked record highs for four consecutive days. On Sunday, about 2,950 new cases were confirmed across the country. In Tokyo, a total of 884 cases were confirmed on Friday, a record high of 949 on Saturday, and 708 on Sunday, the highest for a Sunday. According to the Health Ministry, the number of seriously ill patients reached a record high of 659 on Saturday.
