Broadcasters led with reports on the confirmation of a record 4,915 new COVID-19 cases nationwide yesterday (NHK, TV Asahi), the GOJ’s plan to issue a state of emergency in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, and Saitama tomorrow (NTV, TBS), and last night’s press conference by coronavirus subcommittee chairman Omi in which he said it will be extremely difficult to bring the coronavirus infection situation under control in less than a month (Fuji TV).

All national papers gave top play to stories related to the GOJ’s plan to declare a COVID-19 state of emergency tomorrow, including the amendment of ordinances to enable the governors of Tokyo and three other prefectures to publish the names of eateries that refuse to comply with requests to shorten their operating hours.
