Nikkei wrote that Defense Minister Kishi held a videoconference with his British counterpart Wallace on Thursday and welcomed the UK’s plan to dispatch an aircraft carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth to East Asia. The paper wrote that with China’s growing maritime assertiveness in mind, the two defense chiefs agreed to strongly oppose any unilateral attempt to change the status quo in the East and South China Seas through force. Yomiuri ran a similar report, adding that Kishi and Wallace agreed to step up security cooperation between their nations by holding a 2+2 meeting of defense and foreign ministers soon.
