Majority of Japanese tweets on U.S. presidential election mentioned “irregularities”

Sunday’s Yomiuri front-paged the results of an analysis of Japanese tweets on the U.S. presidential race, finding that almost 70% of the messages that were retweeted more than 2,000 times mentioned election irregularities, including claims that the election was “stolen” or “rigged.” Many of these tweets were apparently posted by xenophobic netizens who supported President Trump on account of his tough approach toward China and North Korea. Since such allegations have been proven to be baseless, the daily expressed concern about the danger of the rapid spread of false narratives in cyberspace.
