U.S., Japan agree to review master plan for transfer of Makiminato Service Area

Okinawa Times wrote that concerning the project to transfer the functions of the Makiminato Service Area to the Kadena Ammunition Storage Area, the governments of the United States and Japan agreed at a U.S.-Japan Joint Committee meeting on Thursday to review the master plan for where to locate the facilities at the Kadena depot. According to the paper, the area to be used for the relocation will be expanded to 80 hectares from the original 45 hectares, and the Ministry of Defense will construct a new road to replace the section of Route 38 that would run through the expanded area.
