Two U.S. servicemen, one civilian base worker arrested separately in Okinawa on Jan. 31

The Okinawa police arrested a U.S. Army third sergeant affiliated with Torii Station for suspected violation of the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) on Jan. 31. On the same day, the Naha Police Station arrested a U.S. Marine affiliated with Camp Courtney on suspicion of obstruction of justice for shoving a police officer. Both service members are denying the charges.


Also on Jan. 31, the Okinawa Police Station arrested a civilian worker affiliated with the U.S. Air Force for shoplifting ballpoint pens and other items worth about 2,000 yen from a thrift store. The worker has admitted the charge.


The Army third sergeant was arrested on suspicion of driving a car under the influence of alcohol around 5:50 a.m. on National Route 58 in Kitamae, Chatan.


The Marine was arrested on suspicion of shoving a police officer in the chest near a commercial building in Kumoji, Naha, at around 6:30 a.m., when the officer questioned him.
