Big-name corporations and other member firms of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) will soon form a new organization to discuss issues related to economic security. The new organization, which will be named the “comprehensive strategic center for the global economy and diplomacy,” will be headed by former Keidanren Chairman Sadayuki Sakakibara. Companies’ operations are increasingly linked to national security, and the business lobby group will amplify the private sector’s views by engaging in comprehensive discussions on foreign policy issues and best practices for managing technology.
Keidanren will help operate the center and solicit participation from businesses interested in economic security. The center will work closely with Japan’s National Security Secretariat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other government agencies and political parties and will also consider collaborating with overseas research institutes and jointly hosting international conferences.
