Nikkei reported on Thursday that METI will begin examining the possibility of introducing a carbon border tax, which will be imposed on goods imported from nations where environmental measures are insufficient. The paper said METI will hold its first meeting of experts on carbon border taxes on Feb. 17 and plans to reach a conclusion by summer.
