Okinawa Prefecture and the Okinawa Defense Bureau are making arrangements for Japanese healthcare professionals who work at U.S. military bases in Okinawa to be included in those who will be given priority in COVID-19 vaccination, Ryukyu Shimpo found on Feb 10. The prefectural government will decide on its policy before March 2021, when vaccinations of health care professionals are to start in Japan.

Those who will be vaccinated first will include ambulance crew members who transport infected patients and healthcare professionals who come into contact with infected patients and patients who may be infected. A survey is being conducted to determine the number of personnel to be covered. The agency that will implement the vaccination program and vaccination locations are still under consideration.
