The Tokyo Metropolitan Government estimates that the number of daily new COVID-19 cases could be brought down to 83 by mid-March if the city were able to maintain the most recent rate of decline. This was disclosed on Feb. 18 at a meeting of experts who monitor the infection situation.
As of Feb. 9, the average number of cases over the past seven days was 524. The number declined to 347 as of Feb. 17. If the most recent rate of decline were maintained, daily new cases would decline to 170 in two weeks and 83 in four weeks.
During the meeting, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike announced that the number of beds for coronavirus patients in Tokyo has been increased from 4,900 to 5,000.
