Nikkei and Mainichi highlighted remarks made at the Diet yesterday by Prime Minister Suga, who vowed to start administering the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine to elderly people across the country in April. The premier clarified Administrative Reform Minister Kono’s statement a day earlier that the immunization of people aged 65 or older will start in April on a “trial basis” since vaccine supplies are “extremely limited” because of delayed delivery from Europe. While pointing out that the premier noted that the vaccination of elderly people will commence in April “irrespective of the volume” of doses available, Asahi said he was implying that only a very limited number of older people will be vaccinated in April.
