Secretary Blinken releases statement for Emperor’s birthday

TV  Asahi reported at noon that Secretary of State Blinken released a statement today congratulating the Emperor of Japan on his birthday. The Secretary reportedly said in the statement that the U.S.-Japan alliance is “the cornerstone of peace and prosperity in a free and open Indo-Pacific” and that upholding democracy and human rights, addressing climate change, curbing the global COVID-19 pandemic, and confronting shared regional and global security challenges are common challenges. The Secretary also expressed willingness to visit Japan at an early date by saying that “the President and I are eager to visit Japan again as we continue to deepen and expand our treasured partnership.” The network added that arrangements are being made for the Secretary to visit Japan as early as next month ahead of President Biden.
