New COVID-19 cases in Tokyo area accounted for over 60% of nationwide total on Feb. 27, 28

NHK reported that Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba are each reporting more than 100 new daily cases of COVID-19 recently, adding that the combined figures for the four prefectures accounted for over 60% of the nationwide total on Feb. 27 and 28. According to the report, on Saturday 337 new cases were confirmed in Tokyo, 162 in Kanagawa, 151 in Chiba, and 118 in Saitama, with the combined figure reaching 768, or 63% of the national figure. These four prefectures were reportedly the only prefectures where the number of new cases exceeded 100 on Saturday. On Sunday, 329 new cases were confirmed in Tokyo, 131 in Kanagawa, 97 in Saitama, and 132 in Chiba, totaling 689, or 69% of the national figure. The network said Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba were the only prefectures that recorded more than 100 daily cases on Sunday.
