Ritsumeikan University and its partner, University of California, Davis (UCD), have developed an online study abroad program. Eighty Ritsumeikan students will participate in two UCD classes for about one month. Ritsumeikan plans to initiate similar programs with its other partner universities.
On weekday mornings, Ritsumeikan students in Japan will take UCD classes on English language and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program takes place in the morning only; students take regular Ritsumeikan classes in the afternoon. The program offers once-weekly interactional events with UCD student organizations. Students pay about 150,000 yen to participate in the program. Ritsumeikan will offer financial support to students on scholarship. The online program was developed so that students could have a partial study-abroad experience, with a view to resuming overseas study and envisioning the post-COVID-19 pandemic world.
