All national papers except Nikkei reported that the GOJ designated on Tuesday the UAE, Austria, Germany, Nigeria, and nine other countries as regions where the emerging variants of the novel coronavirus are spreading. In addition to the UK, South Africa, and two other nations, travelers from the newly designated countries will be subject beginning on Friday to two PCR diagnostic tests—one upon entry and another three days after arrival. They will also be required to self-quarantine at predesignated lodging facilities for two weeks after they arrive.
