Asahi wrote that the Health Ministry is planning to call on prefectural governments to review their plans to secure hospital beds for COVID-19 patients in preparation for the possibility of another surge in coronavirus cases. The paper wrote that the ministry will ask the local governments to update their plans because the ones they made last June were inadequate for dealing with the “third wave” of infection that started at the end of last year, during which as many as 80% of the hospital beds were occupied.
