Around 4 p.m. on March 12, the 95-ton trawler Juho Maru affiliated with the Sakaiminato branch of the Tottori prefectural fishermen’s association and a 20-ton South Korean-registered fishing boat collided in the Sea of Japan about 146 km off the coast of Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture. None of the Juho Maru’s 10 crew members or the South Korean ship’s crew were injured.

According to the 8th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, the collision occurred within Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). It checked the Juho Maru, which had returned to Sakai Port on its own power, and found a dent and scratches on the stern. It will investigate the cause of the accident. The South Korean vessel will be inspected by the South Korean Coast Guard.
