Sunday’s Okinawa Times wrote that it has learned from a report released recently by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) concerning the U.S. military presence in Japan and South Korea that the Department of Defense and the Japanese government have told the GAO that complications arising from environmental analyses at Henoko have delayed the construction of the Futenma Replacement Facility. The paper wrote that the report does not mention the issue of soft seabed at the construction site. According to the daily, this is the first time for a U.S. government agency to point out that environmental factors are causing delays in the construction work.
