Former Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Chairman and CEO Noboru Hatakeyama died on March 13. He was 85 years old. A funeral was held by his relatives. The chief mourner was his wife, Yoshiko. JETRO’s general affairs department is the point of contact.
Hatakeyama served in several key posts in the now-defunct Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI; today’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). Over the course of his career, he was director-general of MITI’s trade policy bureau and vice minister for international affairs. He became JETRO chairman in 1998 and stayed in the post till 2002.
