All national dailies reported on a Health Ministry announcement on Thursday that more than 100,000 jobs have been lost in Japan due to the coronavirus pandemic. The survey, which covers the period from February last year to Wednesday, shows that 100,425 people left their jobs or were unable to renew their contracts. The ministry believes the actual figure is higher because the data only covers cases known to labor authorities and public job placement centers. The monthly number of losses was between 5,000 and 6,000 from November to February, but the pace picked up in March, jumping to over 9,200.
