Yomiuri, Nikkei, and Sankei wrote that an LDP project team focusing on human rights diplomacy invited Chinese Ambassador to Tokyo Kong Xuanyou to a meeting on Tuesday to discuss human rights issues. According to Yomiuri, the Chinese envoy rejected the United States’ view that China is committing genocide in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. However, many of the participants called on China to stop violating human rights there. Nikkei wrote that Kong said it is not desirable to use human rights issues for political purposes, adding that Japan should view China from its own perspective as the leading developed nation in Asia.
